Torrent Whore

A long time ago (aka last semester) Rob Wilder told me to download Dream Theater, citing many bands i like, and explaining that i would like their sound. Well, after months of not really liking their music, i said von boyage to the 4 gigs of music statically sitting on my overworked laptop. In exchange, i used my free hard drive space to torrent even more. Over the last few days i downloaded the entire Yes discography as well as 11 live albums/bootlegs from Rush.  This made me realize how much time i actually have spent download artist’s discographies, and deleting most of the songs months later.

For example: Prince. I spent WEEKS downloading his entire (500+ song) collection last summer. At the time i didn’t realize that about 75-80% percent of his music is basically garbage, while the rest is alright/awesome. After having all his music for months, i ended up deleting almost every album. Even with the 4 albums of his that i currently have, Purple Rain is clearly the best, and i could probably get away with trashing the rest. Also, i did the same thing with a few other bands: The Who, Boston, Journey, and a few others. For these groups i kept the Greatest Hits compilations.

Hmmm… i just remembered that i downloaded the Primus collection a few months ago… and haven’t listened to them yet.
